By the time this little lady makes it to school she'll already be a well travelled world scholar with plenty of exciting stories to share. Meeting Eliza, and taking these pictures, required precise timing and a trip to Whenuapai airforce base to make sure we could capture her in dad's arms before he flew off to set up what will be their new home in France. And until they're reunited later this year, these pictures will be a reminder of his gorgeous girl.
I talk a lot about how much I love shooting in-home sessions. About how people seem more relaxed and how there's a calm about seeing a baby settle in familiar surroundings. But this Newborn Session proved something else. Here in the temporary housing on edge of an airforce base, I saw that the ease that comes with familiarity is not so much about place. It's about people. It's about the safety of being held in dad's arms or the comfort of mum's cuddle. So no matter where this family might be in the world, this little girl is always going to know the comfort of home.
Amy and Jason, I am so glad that you managed to squeeze this little session into a whirlwind couple of weeks, and I'm honoured that you chose me to capture these memories for you. I wish you every bit of happiness and luck for the next exciting chapter in your family's story.
