This is a house full of magic. A place where every corner is coloured by at least one of the occupant’s dreams. A music room for dad, an art studio for mum, a library in tribute to the dreamscapes of CS Lewis. There’s so much heart here and so many stories. So it was my privilege to be invited in to tell one of my own, here in pictures.
I bring you the story of the McBride family. 5 people united by a love of music, books, craft, food (and hot drinks), their land and, most importantly, each other.
This home was designed for them by Christine's father, built on land belonging to the family for more than 100 years, and flanked either side by members of that family. It’s truly special to capture a place so deeply imbued with the hopes, dreams and daily rituals of the people that live there.
The McBride’s story is one tinged with hardship. Gorgeous Zoe has health concerns that make her all too familiar with hospitals and medical treatments. And despite that it’s laughter that bounces off these walls and echoes down the stairwell. Laughter and music. It’s a truly special thing to witness.
Steve and Christine – thank you for inviting me in and sharing so much of your history with me. I hope that these images capture the magic and beauty of your extraordinary family in the way you had imagined.
