Recently I’ve had to postpone a number of family photo sessions because of Auckland’s atrocious winter weather. The McLeods were one such family that I was sad to disappoint. But as it turned out, that cancellation on a gloomy day had a silver lining because we ended up with a spectacularly sunny afternoon at Kohi beach a few weeks later.
And the sun wasn’t the only thing shining. Little Magdalena, just one year old, was a super star with a beaming smile that would have lit up the place even without the weather on our side!
I talk a lot about how I like to let a family photo sessions unfold organically. Especially when there are small children involved because it gives us all a chance to get comfortable and to let emotion and genuine connection lead the way. I was so lucky that Rebekah and Richard embraced that idea whole-heartedly and were happy to spend an hour just roaming the beach, singing songs and letting Maggie do as she pleased. This little girl is lucky to be growing up in a household filled with music, song and lots of love and I think every bit of that shows in these glowing family photographs.
Richard and Rebekah, thank you so much for sharing your world with me for an afternoon. I hope these images bring you joy and perfectly freeze this moment in time with your one year old darling.
