It is a rare pleasure for me to photograph close friends when they introduce a new member to the family. Especially when I’ve known one member of the family for the better part of 30 years! (Now that’s a scary thought!)
Bridget and I met in high school. We became fast friends and I remember many a summer weekend spent jumping in and out of her parents’ pool and driving her mum Judy mad by walking wet feet into the kitchen for another drink or snack! The pair of us lived together during university before Bridget took off on a big overseas adventure. Since returning to our shores it has been my pleasure to see her introduce each new and delightful member of her family.
We now each have a boy and a girl (a “pigeon pair” as I keep being told), with exactly the same age gap and the same unique challenges that dynamic brings! When I met the delicious little Sophie Louise she was a mere 9 days old and being doted on by everyone in her sphere of influence. Big brother Edward was slowly getting used to the idea and testing out his new role.
It was tempting for me to put the camera down and just cuddle the stuffing out of this gorgeous little bundle but I hope there will be plenty more chances for that to come. And anyway, it was just too important to capture these fleeting, hazy early days.
Bridget and Stu - thanks again for letting me capture your beautiful family again. I am looking forward to being reimbursed entirely in cuddle credits. xx
