The Travelling Dress

One dress, eight artists, two countries. Earlier this year I accepted the challenge to participate in a group submission for the Travelling Dress Collective. The original Collective was born in 2016 as a way to explore individual perspectives. The idea was to challenge a group of photographers to shoot the same dress according to their own vision.

In January I was one of a team of 8 Australian and New Zealand artists to each photograph a child's dress from our own unique point of view.

When the floaty linen and lace sundress arrived with me I knew I wanted to showcase it immersed in the serene palette and organic textures of the Auckland coastal landscape. I wanted to my submission to have a very definite sense of location and I liked the idea of juxtaposing the frills against the rough coastal walkways Auckland has to offer. I’ve shared a handful of these images on my Instagram account but there were so many I loved from this little family outing turned “modelling session” that I figured it deserved it’s own blog post.

You can see our whole group's submission, with each artist’s take on this dress (and many others), at www.thetravelingdresscollective.com
